Connecting with my new flatmates

My new flatmates have been here for almost a week now and, at first, it was a little different living with them. Whereas my previous flatmates Jake & Ryno would always come down for a chat and be “around” all of the time, my new ones tend to stick to their room a lot more. It’s not better or worse – it’s just different.

But on Wednesday night, we both had time and were up-and-about so we got to have a good chat about their time in Australia, what they do for work, what kind of things they like and so on. For those unaware, my new flatmates are from Hong Kong, so sometimes they are unsure about how to pronounce a certain word, or indeed what word to use, but they are such lovely people.

As I’ve said in a previous post, I’m surprised they even use the kitchen – it’s left so clean it’s as if they’re not even there. Every one of their pots, pans, glasses or plates is washed after use, then dried and put back in the shelf or cupboard. It’s not as if I expect that kind of thing – dishes left on the sink, so long as they’re clean, is fine- even for days on end (yes I know, I’m a Virgo so don’t gawk at “days” if you expected me to say “months” hehe)… but wow. I’m impressed.

In formalising their stay, I gave them the forms the other day for the real estate agent and got to find out their real names (Matt* and Justin* don’t sound very Asian, do they? :P ) – as they had to be written on the forms with photocopies of relevant IDs such as passport, etc. I guess this place really suits them because Matt really likes the home-gym and they both work at the same place – about 20 minutes walk away. It’s close to the shops, cafes, etc. I will have to buy two beds for them soon (they’re straight friends, so they probably won’t share the same bed :P ) – as soon as the real estate agent approves them, of course. Otherwise I’ve bought two beds for nothing, hah (PS: they needed the room furnished and are paying slightly more in their rent for that, so I will get them beds shortly – airbeds are only comfortable for so long).

They eat a lot too (I don’t mind, because they pay for their own food)… but it’s amazing because they are not huge boys – fairly slim actually, but they eat 2 breakfasts, lunch and a huge dinner (huge = 2 cups of rice, chips, beans, 2 sausages, vegies and 2 chicken drumstick… each :P ). Heh. Where does it all go? Heh!

Anyway, the first week living with them has been really nice. I would like to perhaps take them to a few more places with Dale… things like bushwalking – maybe Maleny, Mt Tambourine or Mt Glorious. They don’t have much spare money, but bush-walking is free – and they seemed to like the idea when I asked them about it. Just gotta ask my BF now.

Actually, it’s a bit of pity they’re only staying for 4 or so months – I really enjoy living with them. :)

How about you. Yes you!
