I take it personally (Session 3)

I take it personally (Session 3)

My 3rd PT session [second with actual exercises] was fantastic. My personal trainer is fantastic – I can’t praise him enough. And I can’t believe I’m saying that, considering my arms are in so much pain that it took me 30 mins just to take my shirt off, and another 10 to get into the shower and turn the shower-head to the side so I could turn on the water and wait for it to get warmer.

You should have seen me trying to drink my protein shake – my flatmate was in stitches. Since, right now, I can’t seem to lift my arms above bench height, I had kneeled down on the kitchen floor and placed my shaker of protein on the bench and then I tipped it down into my mouth at bench height. The last little bit was hard to get out of the shaker; let me tell you!

So, as you can see, today we worked the arms. We did a quick warm up followed by an incline shoulder press on the smith machine with 40kg (12 of those I think), then some dumbbell fly’s and dumbbell boxing things where I had to touch his hands with the weights. In no apparent order, we also did some ab work holding a 10kg weight-plate in the air, tricep overhead rope extensions, chest presses, seated rows, medicine ball ‘Russian twists’ [I think they were called?] and lots of dips. Ouchhh! I couldn’t even put my bag on, let alone try and drink from my water bottle on the walk home. Getting the keys out of my bag was a whole other adventure.

I have seriously never, ever, ever been this sore in my life. But, as painful as it is to drink, type this …or do anything for that matter, I’m very happy with my effort today, as was my trainer. If this soreness is anything to go by, I’m either broken or I got some nice muscle-tearing pumps in (which is awesome) and it’s working :D

He was also much happier with my food diary this time around (the previous week was interrupted with my Big Budda Boom staging & theatre work and my daily calorie intake was in the high one-thousands)… this most recent week, I was having 2800+ calories most days. On one day, even 4200+ calories! I do have to watch my fat intake though – which I kinda knew, especially after writing it up! I eat too much cheese, lol :( …60 grams of fat a day is where I want to be at, he said. Not like, ahem… the weekend’s cheese fondue night, where I consumed somewhere in the realm of 150+ grams of fat in one day :S. Damn cheese fondue. Only once a year shall you ever grace my belly :P .

So this week I will focus on cutting down my fat intake to get down to around 60 grams – but I reckon it will be doable. I’ll try hard. After all, I want to achieve my goals… I really enjoy my PT sessions and the motivation & feedback I get from my trainer just poops all over gymming by yourself at home. If you want to get ahead or achieve a goal… YOUR goal, get a personal trainer. Either that or keep reading my blog over the next few months and see how I go. I’m already making gains in such a short space of time, so I’ve no doubt I will reach my goals in due course.

Until next time, happy gains (or losses – if you’re trying to loose weight :P )… :)
