Riverfire 2009
Last night was Riverfire 2009 (or, ‘The Brisbane Festival’s fireworks display’, or something), as it’s now called. Personally, I find fireworks quite boring – it’s virtually been the same since the 80′s when I remember it as a kid… so my view of fireworks is often “meh… boring”.
With that in mind, I had planned to do didley-squat last night and just stay home… until a friend txt’d me saying he was doing the exact same thing. So I’m like, well let’s hang out then – we can be lame & boring together, lol.
In actual fact it turned out to be a great night – he picked me up at 7pm as the F1-11s were going past for their first of two runs, we went to the bottle-o and then over to his place.I hadn’t seen his place before – but it was nice! Only about 7 mins away, which was good.
We traded pron movies (as we always do, haha), had a few snacks and watched a couple of episodes of My Life on the D-List (Season 5 – woohoo!!) as we got ready for clubbing. We headed out at about 9pm… we thought we’d have to wait forever for a taxi (all phone lines were engaged
) but we walked around the corner and there was one right there, so yay!
We headed into The Beat shortly after that and had lots of drinks and dances until about 2am. Pretty much all of the dance floors had a bit of room, but they became quite packed from midnight onwards. That didn’t stop us though! I don’t think I’d danced that much in a long time …or been out that late (okay, 2am doesn’t sound that late – but when you’re old like me it is, haha!
), lol. It was a fantastic night and my friend, who had turned 25, also had an awesome time. It was soooo hot on the dance floor though – only one of the A/C’s there was working. Doh!
My straight friend Jake, who had turned 24 (click here for photos from his 21st way back when) as soon as it hit midnight (aka Sunday), also came to The Beat for a few dances, which was nice. Initially my mate & I were going to meet up with my friends Edz, Sam, Sammy & Crystal – but they all ended up going to Sporties (to this day I’ve never been… one day eh?) for the night so it was just my mate and I… but, all good – we had fun
We left the beat at 2am and grabbed a slice of pizza, watched some DSB’s (Dumb Straight Boys) get into a fight – ten the cops came running up and sprayed the 3 blokes with capsicum spray and that made them all drop to the ground pretty much straight away. One was crying, the other was acting dead and the 3rd one was struggling, as expected. Eventually the cops got them on their feet and walking back to the station.
We lined up for a cab for what seemed like forever and got one back to my mate’s place to drop him off, and then on to my place to drop me off. I made a toasted sandwich once I got home (mmmm cheese
haha) and headed off to bed around 3. The end
