Pre dentist
Hey all! I write to you today in pre-dentist mode (as per the title). What’s going on, you ask? Well basically, as we all know, everyone should visit the dentist at least once a year for a check-up / clean, etc. But like many others out there, I hate going to the dentist… I’ve never had a filling, I hate the thought of needles in gums, I despise the drilling of teeth and I gag when they poke their implements near the back of my mouth – but I know I need to go to the dentist, because… I haven’t been since 1996.
Yep – you read correctly; 1996. Those of you who can count will figure that’s more than 10 years… bad boy! That said, I haven’t had a specific ‘need’ to go – other than the conscious feeling of going for the sake of going (for check-ups, etc) – I haven’t experienced any toothaches, I brush twice a day and I floss [almost] every day. But last year, I made a conscious decision to cross some of those stupid, annoying, long-term nagging things off my to do list – like getting glasses and going to the dentist. So back in 2007, you might remember, I put “Get health insurance” on my new-years-resolutions list for 2008. I applied back in January of 2008… and, 1 year later, I am now eligible for both minor & major dental cover as part of my health insurance policy. So tomorrow, I’m going to the dentist for a check-up and clean. I’m nervous already. in fact, I’ve been nervous since the day I booked it (yesterday
)… but, I’m going in with a clear head and positive vibes. This is something that has to be done – it’s for the benefit of my own health and wellbeing… so I’m getting off my arse and doing it. Needless to say, you’ll probably come back and read tomorrow’s post, which will be titled “Post dentist”
The whole glasses thing is another area I need to look into. I did the eye test in Feb 2008, but never found any frames that suited me, or fitted me (I have a high-bridged nose)… and that was with both Brandty and Daz helping me. So I think I’ll go and get re-tested next week, and then try again.
So yeah… there you go. Fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow, but it should – it’s only a check-up and clean. But I can just picture Mr Huang now… “Hrm… mmm… not good, Mr Pudmenzky” as he fiddles around in the back of my mouth with his mirror and steel picker-type instrument. The good news, is that it’s a new dental surgery – like, 3 weeks new (which is probably why I could get an appointment just 2 days after I rang!). So hopefully they have the latest technology and everything can be done from a chair in the waiting room, without even having to open my mouth via sonic ultrasound radiation and holographic imaging with plasma conduits, gel-packs and magnetic constrictors.
Dream on, eh?
