Ladies with trolley’s are dangerous

Ladies with trolley’s are dangerous. Sorry, but that’s how I choose to start the story… hehe. It’s funny whenever a big occasion rolls around – like Xmas, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Easter, etc. The shops love cashing in on the occasion (and why not; if there’s money to be made, why not make it) and then everyone comes out in droves to do things related to this occasion. Be it purchasing Easter eggs, Christmas presents, whatever. They pack their cars – kids, stroller, baby food, towels, husband, and head for the city to do some serious Santa-related spending action. The flick of the wrist as the credit card goes through the reader, the sound of coins in the cash drawer, tokens being redeemed, people upsizing to extra large, the whir of ATM machines spewing out valuable coloured paper, and so on. The Christmas rush is amazing, especially if you’re out and about in the city on the last shopping day before Christmas. It seems a lot of people leave their shopping to the last minute, but as long as it gets done in time :P

I also know a few people that do some Xmas shopping before, but most after Christmas. At first, I was a bit confused about the reason behind this, but I asked and found the answer – post-Christmas sales. The savings are amazing! Myer always seems to have a huge sale – people line up outside the store from 3am, just wanting to be first; running in when the doors open to grab the best bargains. I’m not sure what these people tell their kids about Santa’s late arrival, but I’m sure they’d find a good enough reason, especially if they’re saving hundreds if not thousands of dollars on their shopping, gifts and more.

Anyway, better get to the point of this entry; and I regret to announce that it doesn’t really have much to do with the above :P Bikes. That’s my new story starter, and it makes more sense this time. A friend of mine, Joshy, goes riding on the Brisbane City bikeways for a few hours every day, so anyway, we got talking and we both share the same idea about riding, its fun, makes you fit, the view along the bikeways are get, etc, etc… In any case, we both planned to go riding on Saturday morning. I rode from the city to Toowong and back again before I saw him fly past me under the riverside expressway near the Queen Street onramp. So we slowed down, turned around, and decided to ride in the same direction :P

We went from there to Southbank, West End, back to Southbank, to Kangaroo Point right out opposite Riverside, then back to Southbank, over to the City, to the Botanic Gardens, Riverside near the Storey Bridge, back to the Botanic Gardens, and a little bit out towards Toowong again before I headed home. 2.5 hours (20km’s of riding) ain’t bad; considering I normally get puffed and go home after riding to Toowong and back (6km’s). But it’s all good! I survived the next day, and nothing hurt! I was surprised at that. Maybe I didn’t push myself hard enough? Who knows, but it’s good fun, and I’ll do it every weekend, and after work too. Come back and read this diary in 3 months and I’ll tell you if anything good happened as a result :P

I will be sure to take photos along the way if I get my camera back from certain family members who are currently using it ;P~

That’s it for now. Have a lovely Christmas, an awesome New Years Eve [party] and a great 2003. Speak to you soon…
