Dear Diary …wait, a “Dear Diary”? WTF, no serously WTF is that?!?!

It’s been about a month since I “officially” blogged (as in, a ‘Dear Diary’-style post) – so I thought I’d write one to catch-up!

So what’s been happening? Hrm… well apart from all of the other stuff you can read about on here (see here for a list of stuff I wrote about in October, or over here for November), personally, things have been going quite well.

Following my trip to New Zealand for work, where I spent a week sitting on the world’s most uncomfortable chair, I arrived back in Australia with an incredibly sore lower back. So sore that I had trouble walking and moving around. This meant even more lost productivity in the gym, as I’d spent a gym-less week on the Gold Coast for a work convention and then another week in NZ as mentioned above for work. Now, with the back stuffed, the gym was out of the question yet again. Damn…

I visited a local physio a few days later and she did a fantastic job of explaining what had happened and why. She followed that up with lots of prodding and massaging of my lower back, a bit of an ultrasound and then “10 minutes on high” (heh) with some electrode-type things that made my lower-back feel like pins and needles – it was actually very calming after a while (believe it or not). Especially because she put a hot-pack on my lower back at the same time. Sooo nice and warm. I think I almost fell asleep, haha.

Oh, and YAY for private health insurance paying for half of it; sooo worth it. My 3 follow-up sessions with her have also been quite cheap thanks to private health cover paying for just under half of the costs. She’s also given me a series of exercises to do (a new one each week) to stretch the lower back and strengthen the core muscles. Today was my last session for a few weeks, since my lower back has improved dramatically… but I’ll keep at the exercises she’s given me and she’ll give me some more massaging in a few weeks to ensure everything is settling and working well.

During the session, while she was doing her thing on my lower back, we got talking about what we’d been up to over the weekend – the Good Food & Wine Show (read on for more info) for myself and a 25km walk at Binna Burra for her. I had mentioned “my partner” a few times in various conversations we had over the past few sessions and today she asked what “my partner” did for work. I said that “he’s the coordinator for…” and you could almost hear the cogs turning when I said “he”. As per most people, I think she was expecting a “she” at the start of that sentence.

While I didn’t expect any less (I am, after all, just a client of hers), I could visibly and mentally detect that she had relaxed. It was weird …like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Now you’re probably wondering why I’m saying that the weight was lifter off her shoulders and not mine… well firstly, I’m not one to care what others think about my private life – after all, I’m her paying customer and so long as I get the service I pay for, it’s all good.

I have no idea why she suddenly relaxed, but I suspect that in her line of work, when you’re often touching a lot of people, including males, all over – including down my pants (no, no… not that far – but one of the exercises requires tensing muscles that are underneath the abs – and you can only feel them when you press down hard underneath and just off to the side of the bellybutton), I figure you could open yourself to some awkward situations.

It’s like those massage places where the signs read “We do not offer sexual services, so don’t ask”. Perhaps knowing I was gay made her relax and drop her guard a lot more and made her feel more comfortable around me as a client knowing I wouldn’t care if I could see down her top when she was on the floor demonstrating the exercises or whatever… LOL. I guess I’ll never know why she suddenly felt at ease. Maybe she’s a Lesbian? :P Like I said… we’ll never know, haha.

Moving on to other things… I have been getting back into the swing of things when it comes to the gym, which is good. Very slowly and carefully though – always ensuring I lift with my legs and not my back, etc. It’s really been great to get back into it after a few weeks of down-time!

Moving forward a little further, on Saturday night the gang met at a nice Mexican place in West End to celebrate both mum’s and Iain’s birthdays. We ended up at 3 Monkeys Cafe afterwards and spent a good hour or two just chatting together – it was a lovely evening! It was also good to see my boy again – I hadn’t seen him for fortnight or so and in the usual Virgo fashion, I was feeling a a bit depressed by the time Friday night came along, because I hadn’t heard from him in a while and when I did, there was no discernible emotion (mind you, it’s hard to convey emotion in a TXT). Virgo’s are a funny bunch – we need to know we’re wanted, missed and loved… but I just distracted myself and then when I did get to see him again, it was all good. Sometimes I just wish I could ‘turn off’ certain Virgo traits. Some of them play with my mind! But, I digress. On with the story! :)

Then on Sunday, my boy & I slept in for a bit, had a nice breakfast together, played some games on the Xbox360 then met our friends Iain & Joel at Olivers for lunch, before heading across the road for the Good Food & Wine Show. I’d never been before, but everyone else in the group had… and I must say that it was worth going. It was much bigger and busier that I had ever imagined. It was so busy that it was hard to move… people always bumping into you with bags and trolley’s of wine, cheese, meats, etc. But I got used to it after a while – all good in the end.

I think we ended up with 3 bottles of wine and a few more bags of food items. It was $20 each to get into the event, so I think in the whole scheme of things we didn’t save any money by going there – but we did get to taste a lot of products and wines, so it was worth it for that alone. I also got lots of recipe books for free – everything from Kahlua mixes to Asian food. I may not go next year, but the year after I probably will – just to give it time to change a little… otherwise it’s probably (I wouldn’t know, as this is my first year) exactly the same every year.

In the afternoon, I went for a bike ride with my boy. That was heaps of fun! Initially it was a bit of a challenge to get my boy to come along – he didn’t seem to want to go at first, but I managed to convince him to go for a short ride to the park. Within a few minutes, however, he was racing ahead of me – even riding on the road! (in the bike lane, of course). I even struggled to keep up at one stage, hehe! Wow… he was super-keen all of a sudden. I certainly didn’t expect that. He even suggested we ditch the park idea and ride down to the park at Apollo Road and then swing back via Oxford Street – so we did.

It was a lot of fun going riding with him – usually he walks and I ride, but I have to ride very slowly in those instances – but this time, whoah! He was flying ahead. Riding behind him was also, ahem… a bit of a turn on. He has sexy leg muscles :P (Did I just say that out loud? :P )… and then it started raining towards the end, but that was actually good – because it cooled us down and I was wearing boardies anyway, hehe.

Like I said – it was really awesome and a tonne of fun. I hope one day in the near future we can ride to Southbank, the Botanic Gardens, the Story Bridge, Toowong, the Kangaroo Point Cliffs and a few of the other places I’ve rode to over the past few months. I’ll keep you posted if we go somewhere again soon – hopefully we will :D

Well, that’s all for tonight. I’m a bit tired – so it’s time for bed, methinks. Have a great week everyone and feel free to leave a comment below if you want, or need to, for whatever reason. Cya :)
